This screening is made all the more personal by The Carolina Theatre’s inextricable connection to Sloane’s story; she not only lived a few minutes from the venue at one point, but also sang in both the upstairs ballroom (with Connie Moses) and the main stage prior to the theatre’s mid-80s renovation. Sloane spent a considerable number of years in the Triangle area - during two stints in the 70s and 80s, as many of you will remember, selling out clubs like the Frog and Nightgown, and later, Stephen’s, After all. Furthermore, our film’s EP (and former club owner), Stephen Barefoot, was Executive Director for the Carolina Theatre itself in the mid-1980s. He helped Connie and Monte Moses, and countless volunteers and town leaders, usher the 1926 facility through its dramatic restoration, ensuring it would become the thriving arts space it is today.

Let’s pack the house and make this an event to remember. We dream of seeing this gorgeous space filled with longtime friends of Sloane who remember her from The Frog and Stephen’s, her days working for Terry Sanford, and from her weekly WUNC radio show “Sophisticated Lady” in tandem with the long-running “Gary Shivers on Jazz.” We know she’ll be there in spirit, as will all the greats she worked with and admired, so don’t let Our Lady down!

In her own words, she imagined: “the house is SRO, and I receive an ovation … not because it’s the fashion to do it, but because I really earned it. That’s what I want.”

And yes, this marks the beginning of our public release of the film. After six long years of filming, editing, more filming, traveling, fundraising, re-editing, more traveling, more fund-raising, and screenings all over the world, we are so excited to finally make our film available to the general public. And we can’t wait to give you more exciting details on our planned rollout when we show the film on September 7th. See you there!

Humbly and cordially,

THANK YOU!

Michael Lippert

A WONDERFUL TIME IN CANNES

In May, Stephen went to The Marché Du Film at The Cannes Film Festival with sales agent Iris Indie to explore international distribution opportunities. They also managed to have some fun.

A HEARTFELT TRIBUTE

One of the true gems to come out of Cannes was this touching piece made by Anna Ambrosino and Iris Indie to memorialize another emotional ashes ceremony, this time on the French Riviera. People from all over the world, most of whom had only just learned about Carol, sang “My Ship” and scattered ashes together at sunset following the screening.
